  1. Thanks for this new email. Blair sent me the update for Big Dipper 32 bits, but on the old email, and he didn't answer me on another query because he probably don't check very often his old one. Maher
  2. Ola Tomas, Are you just in charge of providing the 64 bits updates for the Northern Lights plug-ins or can you also sell and personalize for new clients? Maher

    Upgrade request

Ola Tomas, I also need to upgrade my NX shaders to 64 bits version. Thanks, Maher
  5. Hello RDM or Tomas, I've just installed High Sierra on my MacBook Pro and I've followed steps 1 to 4 of the above procedure. (I get the «anywhere» in step 3). Still cannot launch Animator. I've tried to reinstall the OSX Universal Dongle Installer but get a failed message. Please help! Maher

    Reduce polygon count

Rhino 3D (Mac and PC) also have a reduction of polygons tool.

Do you really need that the blinking LEDs illuminate the environment and do you have another main source for the lighting of the scene? There is many solutions possibles for your problem depending of the level of realism you want to achieve. If there is a lot of blinking LEDs, it will be probably simpler to fake the average illumination of the whole set. If there is only a few LEDs on at a time, it will be probably more cost/time effective to get real illumination from those few sources. Maher
  8. I've bought Silo a year ago and I'm starting to learning it seriously. The FACT file format export doesn't work at all and I've found that the OBJ export work well with Animator but no success with textures or UV mapping. Is there a secret trick or a plug-in that I should now in order to bring UV and textures in Animator? Thanks, Maher

    Importing from Silo into EIAS

I've just downloaded the beta of Silo 2.5 for Mac and the fact import/export seem to work pretty well. However, I idn't try yet to export with textures. Maher
  10. Students of the Leningrad University in Russia had contacted me because they're doing a adaptation of a science-fiction novel from a well known Russian writer. They are on a thight budget for their project and they «borrowed» an auto-gyro Calidus like mine from a russian owner because it look like futuristic enough technology and could be used to do some ground scenes. They learned about my 3D model that I've modeled from Rhino 3D and rendered in EIAS for some painting tests and they ask me if they can use it for some 3D space scenes. I'm glad to share it with them if it can help, but since all texturing and lighting was done in EIAS, the Rhino file will only give them geometry. If they download the trial version of EIAS, will they be able to use my EIAS scenes (involving no plug-ins)? And what are the limitations of the trial version (other than the no plug-ins part) like limits in term of resolution or duration length for animations? Watermarking? Will I be able to open their tweaked files with my dongle protected version of EIAS if they need rendering horsepower or plug-ins add-on? This is clearly on a basic non-commercial purpose. No one is being paid for their contribution to this students project. Thanks, Maher

    Feature Roadmap

Really Tom, the activity on this site is so low, you really need to keep up posted with some "proof of life" so we won't believe that EIAS isn't really dead... Maher

    Replacing an object by another

Thanks to everyone who replied to my question. sorry if I didn't acknowledge it before but I was away from my computer for a long time. Maher
  13. How animate/toggle the visibility of an object so it can be replace suddenly in an animation by another completely different? The only way I can do that is to start 2 successives animations by toggling on/off my objects and stitching together the rendering. But there is an Animate Visibility box in the object properties but I can't find a way to automate the appearance/disappearance of an object in the time line... Maher

    AFraktal compatibility?

Is aFraktal incompatible with EIAS 9.0 and 9.1? I can open the shader and play with the settings but camera return to me and an API error. Maher

  17. Just a quick idea : apply a cubic wrap map of a rainbow gradient perpendicular to elevation to the water plan object and make it relative to the world. As the water plan rose, it will go through the different colors of the spectrum.

    Importing from Silo into EIAS

Thanks Ruben, I solved part of my problem a few days ago. I was exporting my OBJ after sorting my UVs on the basic low polygons mesh version but after refining my model mesh. It look like if the UV and mesh density doesn't match, EI Animator discard the UV of the imported OBJ. As for the .mat file, I never succeeded to bring any color or surface attribute in EIAS both from OBJ files from Rhino, ViaCAD or Silo.
  19. If EI doesn't not scale down natively on a MacbookPro Retina, it's probably clear either that it won't do on a 5K Retina iMac. It's strange that Apple doesn't offer that native resolution as a choice on all UHD screen. It's one of those many decisions that Apple forced on their customers based on the premise that they knew better then us what we need. Or may be they're afraid that the underpowered video cards they often put on their machines will have some hard time dealing with those huge amount of pixels. The weird thing is that some reports pretend that an UHD that Apple doesn't officially support will sometime display at native resolution (and people complained that they cannot read text the menu bar)... Anyway, those 5K iMac will pretty soon hit the AppleStore and the clients, so we will have a clear answer to your question.

    Importing from Silo into EIAS

There is a checkbox in the OBJ file format of Silo for importing and exporting UV. Both are checked by default. When I export to OBJ from Silo, I get the usual 2 files : the .OBJ and the .MAT. It is not clear to me in which file is the UV data. When EIAS is importing an OBJ file, does it process the .MAT file automatically or should we treat those files separately in Animator Material window? I own Rhinoceros and ViaCAD 3D; I'll try the OBJ import/export of those to try to figure it out. Thanks, Maher
  21. Philips will launch a 40 inch 4K monitor that look interesting for around $800. May be working at native resolution on such a monster won't be so bad. Philips BDM4065UC 40 inch UHD ('4K') monitor - PC Monitors
  22. Imagine if the text on this forum was half the size it is right now. Yes, the project window would handle lot more elements, but it won't speed your workflow if you need to look at it with a magnifier glass each time. It would probably be more effective to use a second monitor just for the project window, one that can rotate in portrait mode to display a maximum number of lines. Maher

Cool! Hope your new business with your wife may spare you some times in order to share that secret with me ;-) Maher
  24. Sorry for the delay, I can confirm that Paulc is right. My 15 inch MBP retina is supposed to have a native screen of 3840 x 2400. But, when I set it to display the most space and I resize the EIAS project window to fill the screen, I can drag that window to my external 27 inch Apple display (2560 x 1440) and it won't fill the screen. The effective resolution is 1920 x 1200 (pixels are 2 x 2). But, on a 15 inch display, even such a lower effective resolution made the text very small and I'm sure it won't be of any use to really work at a native resolution of 3840 x 2400 on a 15 inch screen (or at 5K on 27 inch display). Those mega resolution only make sense on a much bigger screen or in a video or picture windows that display very HiRes content. Maher
