ray trace transparency with alpha.

I have asked about this in the past, but it's been a while and the EIAS rendering has been improved recently.

 

Is there any reason why ray traced transparent objects won't render with an alpha channel? I think last time the answer was that no app could do this. I know Cinema4d and Modo can.

Ola Brian,

 

Right now, EIAS cant do it directly, you need to render a ray trace pass (beauty pass) + change the Render Mode to Phong and render another pass, but this feature is in our to do list.

it doesn't really work, because the transparent areas are distorted based on the refraction - hopefully it will be in 9.1?? The alpha rendered in phong doesn't align with what should be transparent in the RT.

Ola Brian,

 

 

We've some ideas, but anyway it will be not "just alpha channel". There is "transparency" layer in EI_Layers shader, Can it be used to create "RT masks", like in attached prj? If not please tell us what's not enough.
